Ideas For Maximising The Advertising Revenue In Your Magazine

Barn Door Cover

A wrap around effect for the cover section of perfect bound publications, provides two half width vertical pages, opening from the centre to reveal a hidden cover section. Can be produced by printing an additional “insert” page which is bound between inside front cover/first page of the text; this page should be printed on the cover material and finished in the same way by adding an overall sealer, gloss UV varnish or laminate.

Bellybands

A paper band usually printed one side only. We can print your bands; they are then affixed by hand around the outer cover with either end joined at the back. We recommend a minimum depth of 50mm and maximum of 150mm. The standard depth is 100mm for an A4 product, the length is usually 480mm and a minimum weight of 130gsm paper should be used.

Cover Wrap

This is an additional false cover which can be wrapped around a 4pp cover of a publication. Other options include two thirds of the cover depth or a half page horizontal or verticals. They can be affixed to the cover of a saddle stitched publication, glued to perfect/PUR publications, or simply loosely placed with the printed product inside.

6pp or 8pp Cover Section

These are fold out cover sections, sometimes called gatefolds or double gatefolds. They can be positioned to throw out from the front or the back cover providing either two or four additional pages. The throw out pages must be designed shorter than the spine to foredge dimension of the publication therefore avoiding the final trim.

Roll Fold or Gatefold

Pages within a publication which throw-out to provide extra space for advertising messages, ideal for generating more interest than a typical single page advertisement. Produced in a similar way to 6pp or 8pp cover sections, but bound inside the product between pre-printed text sections. They can be positioned to throw out from the left or right hand side providing two or four additional pages. The throw out pages must be designed shorter than the spine to foredge dimension of the publication, therefore avoiding the final trim.

Bound In Inserts

These can be printed on a different stock to the rest of the publication and special finishes applied such as spot gloss UV or matt lamination. We can print and bind them into your publication. For saddle stitched publications a binding guard must be added, and if the publication is perfect/PUR bound, then a spine trim must be allowed for. All types will also require head and foot trims, we strongly recommend that you therefore contact us BEFORE producing them to confirm the precise dimensions required.

Pull Out Supplements

If you have a supplement and are worried that it will fall out, you may use a security stitch to hold it in place. The supplements can be printed by us and  produced with or without a cover

Spreadmarkers

A paper band usually printed one side only, very similar to bellybands. We can print your bands and then affix them around the outer cover to either side of an internal double page spread. We recommend a minimum depth of 50mm and maximum of 150mm. The standard depth is 100mm for an A4 product, the length is usually 520mm and a minimum weight of 130gsm paper should be used.

Tip Ons

This affords publishers or advertisers the opportunity to provide readers with free samples or gifts.. The items are affixed by hand to any position as required. These can be placed externally on the cover, or internally to a specific page.
